GATES OF TURAN SOURCING

Since the launch of project in April 2021, the collaboration with the Kyrgyz Republic has been official and has been constant. This collaboration ultimately led to sourcing production journeys to Kyrgyzstan in 2021-2022, where agreements were signed leading to collaborations with the ALTYN KOL NGO in the YSSIK KOL Lake and NARYN regions, empowering local craftswomen and highlighting endangered crafts of Kyrgyzstan.

ALTYN KOL COOPERATIVE

​

“Altyn Kol” (“golden hands” in Kyrgyz) was founded in 1996 by women of Kochkor ( Naryn District Kyrgyzstan ) with the support of Swiss NGO Helvetas. The organization has three aims: Provide a source of income to Kyrgyz women, Sustain and increase the knowledge about the production of Kyrgyz felt handicrafts, inform about Kyrgyz culture in other countries. Today Altyn Kol has 40 members who provide their workforce and knowledge to produce the felt carpets that are main emblems of Kyrgyz culture: Shirdaks and Ala-Kiiz. Created by hand, they show the women’s craftsmanship and artistic quality. The sale of the carpets and other felt products of Altyn Kol supports more than 80 women in Kochkor and provides them with the ability to better sustain themselves and their families, empowering them.

GULBARA ADELNOVA FAMILY YURT MAKERS

 

Collaboration with a family  of the Kyzyl Tuu Region of the Yssik Kol Lake was central to the creation of the installation. Known as the village of the 100 Yurt makers Kyzyl Tuu is famous since times immemorial for the quality of its Yurt production and design, from inside furbishing to outside structure.

FORRM  SOUNDSCAPE & ALBUM

​

FORRM is Firouz FarmanFarmaian's new born explorative experimental-fusion-rock platform following the artists previous projects on the international indie rock  scene - here adding a free-form multicultural approach to his music making.

​

FORRM signs GATES OF TURAN's immersive installation SHIMMER soundscape sourced in a collection of tracks going under the concept-album project  FORRM NEW FORRM. Produced by Firouz FarmanFarmaian and Published by We R The Nomads Agency, the collection of tracks was in part written in the Krygyz highlands in the fall of 2021  and recorded and mixed in the winter-Spring of 2022 at the Punta Paloma Studios in Tarifa Spain in collaboration with master Tabla - Flute player Axl Naryana and Parisian Producer-Drummer Philippe Deshaies.
